Thomas John Crockett

Notes:

Birth:
In this marriage record, the groom's parent were identified as Thomas and Eleanor Crockett. It doesn't give Eleanor's maiden name but noted that Thomas Sr. was a seaman. It also noted Thomas Jr. (age 27) was a clerk and that Margaret was 24 years old.

Died:
The information on Thomas' death certificate was given by his daughter, Eleanor Beatrice Crockett. She gave her grandfather's name correctly as Thomas Crockett, born in Scotland. However, she misspoke her grandmother's name as Elena Lawrence, who was born in Halifax. I not sure of the reason for the confusion but Thomas's mother was Eleanor Saunders. However, her father's aunt, Sarah Saunders, was married to Nicholas Lawrence so it appears Eleanor confused her grandmother's surname with that family.

On the death certificate, it states that her father was an accountant so this information agrees with occupation titles (clerk, bookkeeper) recorded in earlier censuses records and other documents.

Thomas married Margaret Jane A. Power 8 Feb 1869, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Margaret was born abt. 1845, Halifax, Nova Scotia; died 5 Mar 1898, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; was buried abt. 7 Mar 1898, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

Birth:
Although it is not shown in the transcribed record, it appears that Thomas' second name began with an A.

Died:
The death certificate for Thomas A. Crockett is full of 'unknowns' entries. No details of Thomas' parents are given and no informant came forward to fill in the blanks. The certificate does have the cause of death information added but it is very hard to read. It appears that maybe a secondary factor in his death was noted as schizophrenia. He was noted as being single, aged 79, so therefore his calculated year of birth was 1871. His residence was another 'unknown', so it is possible that Thomas was a homeless person.

Notes:

Died:
On her death certificate, Eleanor's date of birth was recorded as Feb. 10, 1878. This information was given by her brother, Joseph Francis Crockett who lived in Wallice, Nova Scotia. This information varies from information that Eleanor obtained 30 years earlier, supposedly from her church.

Margaret married Charles G. Whebby 2 Sep 1908, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Charles was born 1884; died Yes, date unknown; was buried Yes, date unknown. [Group Sheet]
