    Birth:
    The 1921 Newfoundland Census shows that Mary was born at Caplin Bay about Aug 1845. If this information is correct, she was undoubtedly the daughter of Peter Gregory, since he was the only male with that surname living there about that time.

    Died:
    There were two Mary Bolands listed in the 1928 Calvert Voter's List, but no distinction was made to identify their respective spouses. By the process of elimination, it appears that one of them was the widow of Patrick, who was identified as dying "8 Nov. 1828" in the notes of the late Rob Boland.     It appears that James left Caplin Bay in the 1880s and went to work in the copper mines at Little Bay, on the western shores of Notre Dame Bay, Newfoundland. Little Bay, aka Indian Bight, is a community 16 kms north of Springdale, Newfoundland. Research indicates that his wife's first cousin, John Swain, also went there about the same time, and died there in the mid 1890s. James obviously returned to the Caplin Bay area after his son and then his wife died at Little Bay, in 1883 and 1884, respectively.
