This individual may have been referred to as Patrick, Peter, or Pate. The shortened form of Peter (i.e. Pete), in the Irish Newfoundland dialect, was often pronounced Pate, hence the possible confusion when recording his name.

I was unable to determine where and when Patrick died. It appears that Elizabeth moved to Montreal about 1900.

Based on the age given in his Vital Statistic death record, his year of birth would have been 1854 but the 1921 Newfoundland Census says it was 1857.

This is the first record of a child born to Pat and Elizabeth after they moved to St. John's, Newfoundland.

In his death record in Montreal, James age appears to be given in French as "trente quatre" (34). However, based on his date of birth he was 45 years old when he died.

There was a Henry Aspell recorded as the godfather of John Patrick Aspell, son of John Aspell and Annie McCool (b. 1888) in Montreal. Henry would have been only 11 years old at that time. No other reference was found for a Henry Aspell in any later documents.

Military:
Peter joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force (C.E.F.) under the 199th Battalion CEF Irish Canadian Rangers.. He indicated that he had already been a member of the 55th Irish Canadian Rangers. He was not the typical soldier since he was almost 42 when he joined, married with five children and one more on the way. Actually at one point, he and the military came to the conclusion that he must have been older, possibly 47 or 49. At any rate, Peter never saw any action, since his service records show he had rheumatism/arthritis most of the time so he was kept in England. He was finally discharged from the military on 18 Jan. 1818.

Catherine (daughter of John Aspell and Margaret Luby) was born 29 Nov 1878, Tar Cove, Cape Broyle, Newfoundland; died Abt 9 Jan 1973, Montréal, Quebec, Canada; was buried 11 Jan 1973, Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery, Montréal, Quebec, Canada.
