Notes:
Immigration:
It appears that Stephen did not emigrate to Nova Scotia at the same time as his parents and some of his siblings. He stayed at St. John's but later information indicates he went to Nova Scotia before emigrating to the USA.
Immigration:
Stephen is recorded in the Ellis Island records as arriving at New York on July 15, 1909 as a passenger on the Florizel, departing from Halifax. Nova Scotia. The manifest transcription gives his last place of residence in Canada as Glace Bay, Cape Breton. His next of kin in Canada is listed as Thomas Boland, New Aberdeen, Glace Bay, C.B. The manifest also states that Stephen was going to join his wife, Fanny, who was living at 171 West End Avenue. Stephen is described as a miner, 32 years old, in good health, 5' 7'' tall with a dark complexion, black hair and gray eyes. The manifest also states that he was born in St. John's, Newfoundland. Although this wasn't factual, it seems it was common practice for people to give a larger town or city as their place of birth.
Died:
This death date was taken from an index, so no details are available to verify this individual's full identity. However, it appears from later references to his wife's travel in 1915, and the listing of her as a widow in 1917, that this was likely her husband, Stephen Boland.
Stephen married Frances "Fanny" Hurley 4 Jun 1900, St. John's, Newfoundland. Frances was born Abt 1877, St. John's, Newfoundland; died Yes, date unknown. [Group Sheet]
