    Notes:

    Birth:
    Although Michael's Vital Statistic death record says he was born at Aquaforte, there is no evidence to indicate that any Brien families settled there until the 1830s.

    Voter:
    Michael's name first appeared at Fermeuse in the 1852 Voters List for Ferryland District. He was the only voter with that surname in the settlement.

    Residence:
    Michael and Robert 'Brine' were recorded at Fermeuse in Lovell's 1871 Directory. I found no parish marriage or baptisms records for Robert. Two Brien marriages were later recorded in the parish records, however, at least one of these individuals, Timothy (m. Mary Bevis), appears to be from Ferryland. The second individual, Michael (m. Emma Conway), was Michael Brien Jr., a son of Michael Brien and Kate Dalton. He later moved to Providence, Rhode Island about 1906. In 1894, Michael Sr. and his son, Edward, were the only Brien heads of households recorded at Fermeuse.

    Buried:
    Michael's headstone says he was 78 years old while his Vital Statistic death record says he was 84.

    Michael married Catherine "Kate" Dalton Abt 1850. Catherine was born Abt 1820, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland; died 15 Nov 1905, Fermeuse, Newfoundland; was buried Abt 17 Nov 1905, St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Fermeuse, Ferryland District, Newfoundland, Canada. [Group Sheet]

    There are two dates entered in the baptism records at Fermeuse, January 28, 1861 and February 4 1861. I suspect one may have been done on the date of the birth, possibly because they thought the child would not survive and the later one may have been a formal "church" baptism.
