- Peter joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force (C.E.F.) under the 199th Battalion CEF Irish Canadian Rangers.. He indicated that he had already been a member of the 55th Irish Canadian Rangers. He was not the typical soldier since he was almost 42 when he joined, married with five children and one more on the way. Actually at one point, he and the military came to the conclusion that he must have been older, possibly 47 or 49. At any rate, Peter never saw any action, since his service records show he had rheumatism/arthritis most of the time so he was kept in England. He was finally discharged from the military on 18 Jan. 1818.
