Esther Walsh

- 1896

• Name	Esther Walsh
  Born	Brigus South, Newfoundland
  Gender	Female
Died	3 Mar 1896	Brigus South, Newfoundland   [1]
Buried	Brigus South Cemetery, Newfoundland   [2]
Notes	The Vital Statistics death record states that Esther was 84, however the headstone inscription says she was 79. When her youngest son, William, was accidentally shot in 1880, he was reportedly about 18 (b. 1862). Based on this information, William would have been born when Esther was about 45, if she was actually 79 when she died. This information definitely rules out her age as being 84 and even brings into question the headstone age of 79. Another factor that brings her age into question, even at 79 she would have been about 7 years older than her husband, a situation which was not generally the norm. BATTCOCK, Esther Evening Telegram March 10, 1896 (Tuesday) Died. At Brigus South, on March 3rd, after a short illness, fortified by the rites of Holy Church, Esther, wife of the late Thomas Battcock and mother of the Rev. G.J. Battcock. May God rest her soul in peace. Amen.
