  Notes	The records for St. Stephen's Anglican church at Greenspond show only one Hawkins couple (Thomas and Jane) were having children baptised in that area from the 1830s through to the 1850s. There was one other couple in the area (William and Mary), but no records of any children being baptised for them. It appears that Thomas and Mary were living on Fair Island (called Vere Island in the local venacular). Fair Island is actually a series of small islands on the north side of Bonavista Bay, off shore from Centreville. For adherents of the Church of England, their religious needs were provided initially by clergymen travelling across the bay from Bonavista on the south shore. Later clergymen, resident at Greenspond, performed various church services on their visits along the north shore. All of the located baptisms are from St. Stephen's Anglican church records, however, some unrecorded baptisms may have been performed by visiting Methodist clergy, in the absence of Church of England ministers. This may explain why there are missing entries at St. Stephen's parish for several children who appear to be children of Thomas and Jane. Indications are by the 1850s, Thomas and Jane had moved to Greenspond, regarded as the "Capital of the North". One of their daughters, Keziah,(likely the youngest), died there in 1860. Although we don't know for sure where Thomas was born, a William Hawkins who died at Greenspond in 1856 is noted as being from Dorsetshire, England. There is a death record for a Thomas Hawkins who is just listed as being from Greenspond.
