| Notes |
Married:
- The witnesses at this marriage were Thomas Maher and Anne Saunders.
Residence:
- John's residence was recorded as 239 Gower Street, St. John's. This was the same house address recorded as the residence of his father, William, in 1870/71.
- John's residence was recorded as 239 Gower Street, St. John's.
- McAlpine's 1898 Business Directory lists John Saunders, a shipwright, living at 12 Balsam St. St. John's. His son, Harry, also a shipwright , was living in the same residence.
Census:
- It appears the entire Saunders family moved to Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1900. In this census, John's age was given as 53, and his birth was recorded as Feb 1848. Both John and his son Harry are listed as being carpenters. There were also five boarders living in the Saunders household.
- In the 1911 Canada Census, John Saunders, a widower born Feb 1846, was 65 years old. He and his daughters, Bride and Margaret, were living in an apartment at 124 Cornish Town Road, Cape Breton South. The house appears to have been owned and occupied by his daughter Josephine and son-in-law, Harris McGrath and their family.
- In the 1921 Canada Census, John was recorded as being 70 (only 5 years older than in 1911). His two daughters, Bride and Margaret, both single, were still living with him. The family was living at 26 Ferry St.
